Internet Blackout Caused by Attack by Saw and Gun

Dumb ass copper thieves!
A cable cut that occurred near Cleveland on Sunday night was caused by a saw and the replacement cable had been shot.

That night sucked, though Im sure it was a lot worse for people who reside mainly on that Level 3 backbone.

The data center I work at has 3 main transit links in, one of them rides on that Level 3 network to the East Coast. Level 3 is the most important pipe for crossing the pond, so when they hurt, everyone hurts. It's usually only a 80ms latency reaching us from Europe, with that down it was down to something like 290.

Please folks, think of the poor network admins, be intelligent when stealing copper.
