Tom Help

Postby Bra_Skee_Sko on Wed Feb 20, 2008 9:59 am

I keep getting a security popup that is telling my PC could be infected with Spyware.IEmonster.b.  A window opens up and starts scanning my PC with a program called winxprotector2.1 I googled this and it is a fake program that tries to get you to buy this non-existence software.  I declined to purchase the software but, it continues to pop-up and I now have porn icons installed on my desktop.  In addition, my internet explorer gets redirected if I try and search for this virus.  Have you ever heard of this and do you have any idea on how to get rid of it?

wow girlfriend had that pop up and we click off it, thank god but my buddy has the same thing on his computer right now what i know he did was had to start running everything in safe mode, but he is going to go take his to a local comp store to try and get it fixed. I know this dosen't help much but maybe it will give you an idea.

Bra,

I had a friend with the same problem, those viruses can get deep into your registry which is what it sounds like already. I don't know if Tom has any suggestions but I would save anything you need on a disk, and then reformat. Trying to get that stuff off your PC is way to much of a hassel and usually ends up coming back several times after you think you have been rid of it.

Try scanning with "search and destroy" and AVG makes a decent spyware scanner.

make sure when you're scanning and deleting you have it in safe mode and have windows restore off ;)

Yeah, I once had a "level 5" trojan hit my computer, it infected all the virus and spyware scanners so that they couldn't stop it, we finally got it by installing a second virus program before it detected.
If at first you don't succeed; destroy all the evidence of trying.
