Million Man LAN Party - Anyone going?
There's a LAN coming up which is pretty much the biggest LAN for E-Sports on the East Coast. It's featured in the WSVG (World Series of Video Games) - http://www.thewsvg.com/ - which is a pretty big deal. It's big sponsors are Intel and Microsoft, and Amped, TSN, and GotFrag is all involved. Here's the website: http://www.lanwar.com
Now, the WSVG is not doing any competitions for Battlefield 2, however LanWar (the people actually hosting the LAN) are. A few other teams are going that we know, namely PTX and Hostile Faction. So it's likely you'll see some familiar faces. The LAN runs June 15 to June 18.
Now, going to LANs is a pretty damn good way to get the clan's name out there, but it's also a lot of fun. It's 4 days, it lasts pretty much all day (11am-midnight). For those not familiar with LAN parties, you essentially bring your entire computer setup to a huge complex where hundreds, sometimes thousands, of other gamers. You play in tournaments, both for prizes or unofficial tournaments, and while your not there's dozens of other games being playing over a LAN connection. Being on a LAN has 0 ping, 0 lag, and a lot of gaming. It's a lot of fun.
Now, sadly, it ain't free. However, it ain't that expensive. For access to 4 day event, it's $65. Not a whole lot. The biggest cost you'll make, though, is a room. I've done a little research, and this looks pretty good:
Free breakfast, free shuttle, free highspeed if you bring a laptop, ect. It rounds out for $320 for 5 nights, so it can be somewhat expensive, but it's still not as much as some places. If you use a site like Hotel.com, it might be possible to get a real cheap room, too.
However, there's also a drive. It being pretty far inland, it might be out of driving range for some of you far east coasters (such as people in NY). However, it's within a 6 hour drive from where I live (far east West Virigina) and Pittsburg.
If your willing to make the drive, and can afford around $500 for the entry, hotel, and other stuff like... food, drinks, and snacks. And more food! However, it's a very big event, you can do a lot of fun gaming stuff, it'll have booths from all the biggest names in gaming, and if HK can make a presence and take home a few wins, this is an easy way to get setup on a major sponsors. But more than that, it's a good way to meet other gamers as well as just play with a couple thousand other gamers.
It's a big thing, and I'm going. I'm about to sign up. Thing is, if we can get a full team there, that'd be a big deal. But even if we could get a few people, we may be able to ally with another clan and get a full 8 person team.
Also, if you haven't already, get yourself on the map! http://www.frappr.com/hkclan - the MML is also posted on there if you want to see where it's at.
Hope to see a few of you there!
