TF2 + BF2 + Free = Battlefield Heroes!

Probably not a competitive FPS, but it looks like a fun, pick me up, casual mutliplayer FPS. Created by DICE & EA, the game is Battlefield Heroes.

Look forward to playing with you noobs! Might be a good crossover game for people who compete in the different games for pub purposes, but like I mentioned before probably not a lot of competitive potential. But who knows.

I wouldn't discount competitive play so quickly if I were you. A free game, to some extent, does not mean it will not be competition worthy. Examples: Enemy Territory was free and widely played; Also it favors the TF2-style cartoon like which appeals to many players and teams. If EA/DICE gets it right, it could very well be a popular competition game. And despite our opinions about EA/DICE, every battlefield game released has been in competition.

Although EA/Dice cannot sell skill, they do offer players that suck an opportunity to purchase an advantage over their opponents.

In a major departure from its traditional business model, E.A. plans to announce Monday that it is developing a new installment in its hit Battlefield series that will be distributed on the Internet as a free download. Rather than being sold at retail, the game is meant to generate revenue through advertising and small in-game transactions that allow players to spend a few dollars on new outfits, weapons and other virtual gear.
At a conference in Munich, the company intends to announce that the new game, Battlefield Heroes, will be released for PC this summer. More broadly, E.A. hopes the game can help point the way for Western game publishers looking to diversify beyond appealing to hard-core players with games that can cost $60 or more."

The existing Battlefield games are fairly deep; you have to be pretty good or you’ll die pretty quick,” Mr. Florin said Friday in a telephone interview from Geneva. “Now we’ve toned down the difficulty, shortened each game session to 10 or 15 minutes and made the visual style more cartoony.”

You don't have to have skill to play battlefield.  It's the most newbish thing I've ever seen, this will be no different.

The huge cof in bf2 did shrink the skill gap, but at least nubs were not able to buy stuff to give them the upper hand. Actually, ea/dice kinda did that with special forces, where you could get the G36E by paying an extra $30

I watched the trailer and it looks kinda interesting.
Would be fun to sit on the wing of one of those planes as its doing a strafing run and you really can't go wrong with free.
It's not like you will have wasted money on it if you were to install it and its crap. You just wasted some bandwidth which you were paying for anyway.

I wouldn't say that it has the worse hit detection I have seen in a FPS however, it is still one of the best games in my opinion.  Nothing beats owning it up in the chopper or tank.
