I'm looking for a new headset.

I'm looking for:
* Decent sound quality - Not anything excellent, but not anything that is grating.
* Decent mic quality - Can talk without sounding garbled, cancels out some background
* Comfortable - should be able to play for 1 or 2 hours without my ears hurting
* Affordable - Needs to be under $23 shipped (paypal)

I used an Altec Lansing AHS-502 and liked it pretty well, but am looking for something new. I'll just get another one if I can't find a decent substitute.

Do you care if it is wireless or not???

Its all preference

---light set(wraparound... really good fit with no prodding)
or
--- heavy padded(overhead much more expensive but better quality)
I have two sets, one of each and if you let me know what you are looking for I'lll recommend you one...

both are comfy its just that the larger one costs about $100 more but has uber sound quality

something that will help the sound qaulity of you talking and other people is a ventrillo. They are much better quality than a teamspeak.

I got a Plantronics Audio-90. It's really nice - it's got like a soft cloth sort of thing over the ears and it is very comfortable. It's not tight at all and is a perfect fit. The sound quality seems really good, actually, which was quite a surprise. I'm getting a better sound range than all my previous headsets - and even my current speaker setup. The bass isn't the greatest, however it seems like it has a wide range.
Tested Teamspeak and the mic works fine - not sure if I sound more or less like myself, though. I've got kind of a cold, so I sound kind of weird actually (not sure if it's the mic or just me being congested).

Oh well, I'll be playing better for sure. The temp mic I was using had 1 headphone on it, so I could only hear Mono out of my right ear, which is really bad for in-game play. Now, though, I'll be back to my full ownage potential. ;)

Woot!

I ended up returning my Altec Lansings 600's I got.
Either I had a bad pair or the dynamic range of the set just didn't sound good to me. They sounded flat (no high range)  - the bass was OK but I need the high end frequencies for my OLD ears

I think I will do a separate MIC and get a decent standalone pair of high end phones as I listen to tunes, watch movies and playing with creating music on my PC. Now on to getting my x-fi pro working right...

Coming from ventrilo back to teamspeak, I REALLY do notice the difference in quality.  I'll pay for the vent server if you all want to make the switch.  I'm going to mess around with the codecs tonight and see if I can get better quality, it's hard to understand what people are saying at times.

I have the $40 non-usb logitech and I have had very little problems with it.  I wouldn't suggest hurling it in anger, but they are fairly rugged.

I notice the difference in quality as well and personally, I find Teamspeak with much better quality. Matter of fact, we had tested this only a couple weeks ago. Some people feel Ventrillo is better, others including myself find Teamspeak better. We are staying with Teamspeak because that is what we are familiar with and have used the past several years. In addition, we would have to pay some server company significant amount of money for the number of people we allow to connect. Not to mention, you cannot host Ventrillo on your own for greater than eight people without a license. Finally, with Ventrillo, there are too many "toys" involved with the application that it would ultimately be nothing more than a distraction when it comes to practice, scrims or matches. Last thing I need to see people doing is chatting with the text-to-speech tools rather than attend practice. Ventrillo is not going to happen within hk.

Hmmm...  maybe you can help me fix my teamspeak quality.  I may have something configured incorrectly.  From a useage standpoint I do prefer teamspeak (I prefer the female voice over the Stephen Hawking voice too).  I appreciate your viewpoint on the text-to-speech feature; it did become a distraction for BT.  Case closed; goodbye ventrilo, hello TS.
