hands down best RTS right now is BATTLE FOR MIDDLE EARTH 2....

the first was pretty sick... but this one creates for entirely different types of battle...
instead of just being able to cram your resource producing buildings into a corner of your base.  BFME2 is setup so it becomes a land battle which determines who gets more money and room for structures...

and if you are a LOTF fan... the units and races are pretty cool too...
Human
Elven
Dwarves
Gondor
Isengard
Mordor
and i think Haradarim

Quake Wars HANDS ON preview from E3 by GameSpot...
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/enemy ... id=6150526

There's also 2 new screens and a movie - if your a GameSpot subscriber you can watch that movie in HD. Does anyone have a Gamespot subscription then can use to get the HD version and share with us non-subcriber folks?

Wow, even in lo-res, the trailer looks AMAZING. Holy crap. I want that game now! Not fall, now!!!

IGN got a lot of good stuff

REAL Gameplay video footage - 4 parts, lo res, and no sound (video footage was taken from the e3 floor). Looks GREAT though - http://media.pc.ign.com/media/748/748377/vids_1.html

New Screenshots (lots) - http://media.pc.ign.com/media/748/748377/imgs_1.html

Multiplayer Hands-on Preview - http://pc.ign.com/articles/705/705781p1.html

Another Hands-on Preview - http://pc.ign.com/articles/707/707597p1.html

Good reading, and the videos... wow. Low quality, no sound, and pretty crummy overall, but it looks AWESOME.

I can't wait...these maps are sounding a lot like the old TFC Attack/Defend or the UT Assault maps with objectives and such.  Sounds a lot more fun than capping flags...

Interesting read with a more competition-related prespective:

Also, great high defination video:

- http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php ... _id=161781

Lots of good news:

- Good engine / movement
I was surprised that Quake Wars was running on the Doom 3 engine. My experience with Doom 3 involved lots of stiff and unfriendly with movement, but Quake Wars feels a lot like the fast paced Enemy Territory

- Unlimited sprint (no more sprint jumping, ya)
One very impressive feature was the fact that there was a sprint, but it was not limited, whereas in Battlefield, you are very limited based on how much “stamina” you can expend.

- Real-time vehicle damaging (no more static "damage")
The engine also allows real time damage to vehicles that will create minor permutations in gameplay. Unlike Battlefield, where tank shells or AT missiles do a scaled damage based on the location of impact , the vehicle will be directly affected. The best example of this is if you have a rocket launcher and an APC comes rolling by. if you shoot and hit the back left wheel, it will fall off. That in turn does damage to the vehicle and also limits its speed and movements. When you attack a vehicle via lesser damage, you are still able to affect smaller points such as a tire which can be flattened, thus affecting its speed and movement.

Deployables info
If you notice, two of the classes are allowed to build offensive and defensive structures. Engineers can build anti-tank or anti-personal turrets while Field Ops can build Artillery and other offensive pieces so artillery strikes can be called in. The structures are only allowed in certian places, but not restricted to the point were it could be pre-built for you. If you build one and die to switch classes, the structure is still under your control and acts accordingly until destroyed.

Strogg differences: Stroyent
The biggest aspect that separates the two is the Strogg's use of Storyent. Stroyent functions as ammo and health for the Strogg classes, which acts as a point of differentiation between the two sides. One example, as evident in the classes table, is the fact that Field Ops (GDC) provide ammo for the other classes, while the Oppressor (Strogg) does not. Only the Technician can provide the Stroyent which is needed for almost everything in the Strogg classes.

Class info
Code: Select all
GDC          Strogg     Description
Soldier    Aggressor    Skilled with Heavy Weapons and Explosives.
Medic      Technician    Revives troops in the field, provides health (Stroyent*) and air drops supplies.
Engineer    Constructor    Deploys Defensive Weapons, plants mines, and repairs.
Field Ops    Opressor    Calls Air strikes, deploys/fires artillery (provides ammo*).
Spec Ops    Infiltrator    Hacks, deploys radar, and steals uniform
