Bad Harddrive?

Postby Mattc0m on Fri May 19, 2006 6:29 pm

What's the best way to find out if you have a bad harddrive? I reinstalled BF2, but it's still having problems loading up stuff. I'm going to try reinstalling on a different harddrive or something...

Try scanning your drives using windows chkdsk.  Open My Computer, right click your HD, properties, Tools Tab, Error Checking, Check Now..., check both boxes, start.  You'll probably have to schedule it for the next restart, since the drive is in use.

Other thing to try is to go to your HD manufacturer's site and look for a drive diagnostic tool.  Most of the time you'll find a boot cd/floppy to use to scan for problems.

I ran the check disc, no errors. Everything checked out (according to windows).

Perhaps its my RAM? Anyway to test RAM without the use of a floppy drive?

If someone could do me a favor, though, to rule out one of my worries - is upload a full 1.22 patch to the FTP. I tried a Download from both EA and FileShack, but both give me "failed to patch" errors on a pretty frequent basis. Could be something wrong with the intial installation, or something also could be wrong with the patch.

I've tried numerous patches, installs on different harddrives, you name it. Nothing is getting BF2 to work properly.

And to top it all off, today (tommorrow) is my birthday. Great!

Maybe I'll get a new computer for my birthday. Yeah, right.

Yea man combined with what happened in the match when you got those errors, and this, it might just be the RAM. memtest 86 try it.

Like I said, I can't make a bootable floppy (or CD). Is there any other way?

If you got a usb flash drive sitting around somewhere that works too. Basicaly any media you have can be made bootable.

I've got a request. Suppousively the most commonly corrupt file is the Objects_client.zip file in the Battlefield 2\mods\bf2 folder. It's a big file. For me, it's 511MB (if someone could compare that, that'd be great). Anyway, if someone can upload than overnight for me, I'd really appreciate it.

For the exact problem it's very similar to:
http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthre ... ed+to+load
For my first 3 reinstalls, I kept getting "Patching failed" messages on the first patch. However, after patching a second or third time I was successful. However, last 2 reinstalls have worked fine on the first time. However, now I'm getting that EXACT error about 5 posts in (the missing fnp90.bundledmesh file). Also, when looking at the Patch.err logfile, it's the EXACT SAME as Swy's (about 7 posts in).

Also, there is a chance my patch may be faulty. If someone could upload the FULL 1.22 patch as well, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Yes,

AND IT WORKED! At least for Dalian Plant. I still need to test to make sure all maps work, as well as test out a few public servers.

I need 2 files

mods\bf2\Levels\Mashtuur_City\client.zip
mods\bf2\Levels\Strike_at_Karkand\client.zip

If someone could upload those 2 files to the FTP under "misc", that'd be great. I can't play those maps until I get working versions.

They are on the way to the Misc folder, not the bf2/Misc folder. They will be in separate sub-folders.

Done. They are from the vanilla versions of the maps.
