Ambush at Hill 17 is the first part of a three part series. The next part will be entitled "Rescue at Hill 17", and the final episode title is TBA. This movie portrays a tiny tactical USMC force parachuting in, loading into a FAV, and moving into position on the infamous Hill 17. An airstrike ensues, but MEC forces detect the small USMC force and send units to take them out. Can the USMC unit escape overwhelming odds?

Please read through, or at least skim, the general ideas for acting in the film.

Rules for Acting in a BF2 Movie!
To make the film look as good as possible, you'll need to follow a few guidelines! These go against your very nature of playing BF2, but you'll have to adapt.

1. No Jumping - No one jumps in a firefight. Even if anyone did, BF2 makes jumping look incredibly goofy and non-jump like. So simply, don't ever jump. Now, if your out of a scene, and your having trouble getting over something in order to get into a scene, obivously, jump. But as long as the film might catch a glimpse of your character - NO JUMPING. Especially no bunny hopping or prone diving.

2. No Prone - When "aiming" at a target, use crouch instead! There's a few instances where you'll want to go prone - mainly if your defending, and/or using a sniper or support kit. In those situations, where prone *is* advisable, please clear it with someone first. Prone causes a lot of problems - clipping difficulties mainly. Your body will stick into buildings, trees, rocks, slopes, whatever. You'll need flat ground with no obsicules near you if your going to go prone - a body sticking into a building looks very funny.

3. Don't kill people! - This is a hard one to use - but simply don't kill people unless it's part of the script. Aim near their body. If they're near a wall, shoot at the wall around them. If not, shoot at the gun in front of them. Because of random bullet spread, you can't guarentee you won't damage a person. But if you kill someone, you could end an entire scene! So please, while you do aim very close to them, do not go for the kill unless your suppoused to. Try to make yourself a cinematic as possible - single shot shouldn't be used, full auto is best. However, firing in medium-length bursts (4-7 shots per burst, rapid bursts) keeps a constant firepower withuot looking crazy inaccurate. Just do whatever you think looks best for how your playing! Not everyone has to be alike.

4. Be Smart - Try to play a role you think would best suit the situation. And try to balance the squad your working with if it's infantry. All the roles should be spread apart evenly, even if you generally never play that role. Be smart about your weapon selections - mainly use your main rifle, and when using other weapons, be appropiate. Fire missiles are vehicles, and don't switch to your pistol when you run out of ammo. Your knife should never be out. Just remember - we're not so much using filming BF2 gameplay than we are filming a movie using BF2.

That should be it. If you have any ideas or suggestions to add, please do! Otherwise, just make sure during the filming you don't do anything stupid, and we'll all get along just fine!

Progress so far...

  • Filming - 90% finished - Using actors to act out scenes within Battlefield 2.
All scenes filmed, except dropped drive & drive to central island.
  • Track Recording - 75% Finished - Using Battlelauncher to record "tracks" within each scene.
  • Video Recording - 50% Finished - Using Battlelauncher & Xvid Codec to render high quality video with the previously recorded "tracks".
  • Sound Recording - 30% Finished - Using Battlelauncher & Audacity to render high quality EAX sounds of the previously recorded "tracks"
  • Introduction Piece - 0% - The introduction piece to the video, requires the most video editing and fine tuning to get as high production values as possible.
  • General Video Editing - 5% - This is the main event, everything from cuts, pans, fades, sounds, slow mo effects, glow effects - basically, the entire meat of the movie editing process, including sound.
  • Credits Piece - 0% - Gathering and making a quality credits reel, using as little time as possible (no one likes long credits)
  • Voice Acting - 0% - Gathering voice talent, assigning scripts, ect.
  • Fine Tuning - 0% - Showing beta version to people, gather responses, make any last tweaks or finalizations before releasing the final version.

ETA: 10 days.

Intro Clip - Beta 3
http://media.putfile.com/WIP-Intro-Beta ... At-Hill-17

There's a sample of music that I might be following, its from Freedom Fighters. Essentially, the type of music I'm looking for is fairly simple, yet upbeat and energetic. Any talking / voices in a song will severly reduce the likelyhood of my using it.

Best bet for music suggestions is to upload the music to sitemusic on the FTP and let me have a listen to it.

I like the way you did the white cut in and out. Nice effect and the ending text expand looked good.
Something like that would be a cool opening video for website...30 secs is a good length.

I have some soundtrack beats cd-roms from my days at the web development company - I will post up the tracks if I find anything. What are you looking for in length for the whole movie?

All ripped at 320.

I also have 59 sec and 29 sec tracks of all but the 04 track.

Scene 3 is almost done:
http://media.putfile.com/WIP-Scene-3-Beta-4-from-AaH17

Its high resolution, so select "Original" as the View Size, or double click on the video to open it up with Full Screen.

The last 2 "shots" (about the last 10 seconds) is obviously not finished. Also, the movie carriers on in blackness for a bit, since I forgot to cut out the end (but the shot is not done yet, is why).
