One thing that really sticks out with that system is the Video Card - get at least a 7600GT (GS is not that good), or 7800 or something.

You are going to luv that monitor Sirpsycho. Trust me on that. I got two of 'em.

The graphics card is definately good enough to run any current game at the highest resolution and maximum settings. Besides, its one of the easiest components to replace when better things are released with DirectX 10.

A 7600GS? No, that's an underclocked 7600 - which was a budget card to begin with. The GS series is super main steam - not built for gaming. Get a GT for sure.

Budget or not, it still can run any "current game" on the highest settings. That is all I am saying.

On another note, you can get what you can afford. Even I cannot spend $5000 on a computer. That is partially the reason I have stuck with DELL with my reorder of th XPS 700 system (12% company discount and a $200 gift certificate because of the the delay delivering me the computer along with an upgrade to the conroe processor E6700 wihout additional cost).

The place I am ordering my comp from doesn't offer the 7600GT in 512MB only 256 , but they do offer a 7300GT in 512 MB. Would I be better off getting the 7300GT 512 instead of the 7600GS 512 ?????

lol hell no, 7300 is the budget card of nvidia, memory size doesn't replace raw core speed and pixel pipelines. A 7300 couldn't run bf2 at 800X600 with all low I bet.

meh, I spent $2k on my last computer and I can run bf2 maxed completely out at 60-100 fps.

Atamanch was correct with his statement about core clock speed and shader pipelines.  The only thing memory size really gives you is the ability to use more/larger textures in a given frame.  If you are using really small textures it doesn't matter whether the board is 64MB or 512MB.

Graphics processors and the AGP / PCI express ports are all just hacks anyway.  If we could just finally make a jump past 1970s hardware design none of that crap would be necessary as there wouldn't be legacy bus / pipeline issues that had to be bypassed in order to have a fast machine.  If all of the video memory wasn't on the wrong side of the bus there would be no need for hardware pixel shaders.

Yea dude most of the time vendors just slap on a 512mb memory configuration and market it as the next greatest thing. You're only gonna use that memory for giant textures, but you're cards ability to render the scene at 60 or more FPS isn't any better with that extra memory.
